last day of 08

i was on call on thanksgiving...
got called into work at 8
which sucks
cause my pt was a one to one and ended up
....

i worked christmas eve and christmas day
which is always hard
cause everyone and their mama is at a party
with their friends and family
gettin their eat and drink on
and i'm up drinkin tons of coffee
to busy to eat anything

i think spending the last day or hours with someone before they die
is an honor
i was able to hear all her memories about her past
her views on the future
and some advice on life
i came back to work
she took a turn for the worse
and within hours
she was gone
i hugged her daughter
knowing the night before i allowed her to play a video
for her mom of her dog that she missed so much
i told her daughter how her mom loved truck driving
through northern california, washington, oregon and montana
i told her daughter how much she loved and gushed over obama
deaths in the icu usually easy on me
but when they are talking and not on any sedation
just waiting for a decision on treatment
and nothing was done yet and they pass
like this case
and being the holidays
made me very sad
i can't imagine losing my mother during the holidays
making decisions
calling friends and family members with the news
i watched her daughter frantically call everyone late at nite
i dont ever wanna go through that

so i decided that 2009 is gonna be a fresh year with accomplishments
gonna tell my mom and sister i love them
every chance i get
cause you never know

i do feel like shit cause my last two patients passed
one was old
the other so young
please please wear your helmet on a motorcycle bike
ironically the lady who pushed to pass the law for no helmets in florida
died two weeks later after it passed
she died on her motorcycle and would've lived if she wore her helmet

school starts next week.
can't believe i'm going back

gonna start goin to the symphony and checking out local theatres
i saw slumdog millionaire
and it was the shit!!!
ok think my new toy is in synced and charged
i love it
can't get enough of it
just wish the cases for it wasn't so damn expensive and the armband
